This series inflicts pain. It is so awful , dreary and drippingly sentimental. My wife loves it. It peddles the notion that these people are somhow real. Unreal!

Ok i'll admit, i didn't watch this when it aired on TV - had all intentions of doing so though, but just never did.
God did i miss out, i seen the end of an episode from season 2 on E4 the other day - i was glued. Obviously didn't know who was who and what was what but it was great from the 10 mins i did see.
I already like Calista Flockhart from Ally McBeal (One of my favourite US series EVER - Brothers and Sisters now being next on the list) and i also liked Sally Field from Mrs. Doubtfire and E.R and she plays a fantastic part as Nora - for what i have seen, i only bought it the other day.
I have watched some more and i am hooked, it is realistic, genuine, funny, and dramatic - all in all GREAT!
I will be buying series 2 when it comes out!
Mucho recommended!!!!!!!!

I am not much of a television fan, in fact I don't actually own one! Therefore I generally come across television classics by word-of-mouth and then go find out for myself what the fuss is all about. I also have a guilty secret of only really bothering with television shows which feature a gay character or storyline.
"Brothers and Sisters" came to my attention thanks to a rave review and interesting article in popular gay magazine Attitude. And since the series features a gay character (and it's great reviews) I decided to download the first episode to see what I thought.
And what I thought was- I must go out straight away and get the box set!
I am more than pleasently suprised to find that "Brothers and Sisters" is actually quite a remarkable, catchy and addictive drama series, which is warm, loving, humourous and a pleasure to watch. The series stands out largely because of it's fantastic storyline which unravels and develops in almost a murder mystery type fashion - it's marvolous to watch!
As the story develops and continues, the show promises viewers a fantastic ride which takes us deeper and deeper into the multilayered and interlinking stories found within this spectacular show.
The acting, I must confess, on behalf of the two leading ladies, does at first come off to be a little wooden- but I have warmed to this performance style and indeed also been quite taken by just about every character and their quirky ways. They are a fantastic portrayal of a large family, and it's really enjoyable to see the bonds between them all.
The show frequently also tugs on my heart strings, and I think this feeling could be universal- many episodes I find a tear coming to my eye, one or two had me sobbing! This is then contrasted by the soft humour and irony seen within the series which gives the audience a balanced and pleasurable viewing experience.
If you're looking to be submerged into a fantastic story and looking for characters which are loveable (and certainly in my case, often very familier), then "Brothers and Sisters" is definatly a series for you to enjoy, and I recommend it without reserve.

I absolutely loved it!!! I can't wait for the second series! I thought it was funny, loveable, caring, and heart-warming! If you liked Desperate Housewives, then you will love this even more!!!
I highly recommend it!
Great drama, but needs some comic relief. - Reviewed on 2008-05-29

I originally got this on rental as I had just finished watching Ally McBeal and wanted to see what Calista Flockhart got up to next. I hadn't realised that this was a drama and so was initially disappointed to see her in such a different role, but the characters were all so well written and so honest about themselves, and the change in pace for someone like Flockhart was great. My only criticism was that it was just a little too real, drama could do with taking a leaf out of Shakespeare and include some real comedy motif to prevent the mood from being too overwhelming and sadly I didn't find that the script gave enough in this area to enable me to watch it continually.
