Plenty of room for improvement - Reviewed on 2008-12-30

After a few listens to this, some irritations become clear.

The vocalist's range is limited from 'shouting' to 'shouting louder' - and any 'song' consists of simply alternating between the two.

The lyrics are clumsy at best. For example, in Cheap Wine & Cheaper Women, the line 'Women come and go, they never do remain' grates with me every time I hear it - the 'do' awkwardly inserted to make the line scan.

I can understand why the guitar riff based tunes have been compared to AC/DC, but the complete package is far from being anything like them.

Here's hoping their next album will be much improved.

Brilliant album,no soppy ballards here, all killer,no filler as they say. This is the sort of album the Darkness should have made (and were capable of).Every track a classic.Seen the band live and they are incredible, like AC/DC but on speed.Buy it now and sell your grandmother if you have to,to get tickets for a live show.

This is a great debut, and having seen them live at Sweden Rock, I can confirm that they can cut it live as well, and are by far the most energetic band I have seen in 30 years of gig going.

Whilst the AC/DC comparisons are valid, there's also a bit of Rose Tattoo and Cinderella in there as well.

Having heard the new AC/DC album and being thoroughly underwhelmed, I'm wondering if I feel no enthusiasm for the new AC/DC because this album is so strong.

If you like straight ahead rock you cannot go wrong with this album.
short sharp shock - Reviewed on 2008-10-29

Their debut album hardly dissappoints as even though its short at 35 minutes its enough to give you a sharp shock to the system with the boys rocking out on tracks like "Too Much, Too Young, too fast" and "Runnin Wild", "Diamond in the rough" "Heartbreaker" which is in a similar vein to the much loved if underrated aussie rockers Rose Tattoo rather than the sex boogie of AC/DC.

If they do not let any internal strife or the demonic curse of sex drugs and rock n roll prevent them from fufilling their potential even further then they could become legends of their own making.
