Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Amazon.co.uk Review

Eight seasons in, and the goings on within County General Hospital???s emergency room are as gripping as ever. And with E.R. season eight, it???s all as tight, gripping and downright clever as you???ve come to expect.

By season eight of E.R., the cast was being led by Noah Wyle as Dr Carter, Anthony Edwards as Dr Greene, Maura Tierney as Nurse Lockhart and Alex Kingston as Dr Corday. Yet while some of the faces have changed over the years, the core of the show--a fast moving medical drama packed with proper, strong characters--is very firmly intact.

This boxset features all 22 episodes of E.R.???s eighth season, and there are some crackers in there too. "Secrets and Lies", for instance, sends some of the regulars off to a sexual harassment seminar, the incredibly moving "On The Beach" is one of the finest episodes of the show full stop, and "Lockdown" is a cracking and dramatic way to end a very strong season.

Originally broadcast across 2001 and 2002, these episodes still feel just as fresh as the day they were originally transmitted, and find E.R. continuing to maintain its quite amazing run of form. Whether new to the show or a long-time fan, there???s plenty to enjoy here. --Jon Foster

Probably the last great season. - Reviewed on 2007-12-11

Compared to the most recent series, watching this DVD boxset really reminds me of how good ER used to be. Whilst now they rely on big stunts and guest stars there are some amazingly simple and subtle episodes in this series where the writing and the acting really just blow you away.
Points that really stick out for me are Abby's assualt, Elizabeth and Romano discussing Mark after they find out he is gong to die, Carter reading a letter from Mark to the rest of the ER and the fabulous Breakfast Club inspired episode 'Secrets and Lies.'
I think this is the series where you fall in love with Abby and the year that cements her as a classic ER character and I defy anyone not to shed a tear during Mark's illness. This is a series which will make you laugh, make you cry and make your heart beat faster. If you're a fan of the old ER style I would definately recommend this box set.
ER Season 8 - the last series before the transition period - Reviewed on 2007-07-18

In its 8th season, ER continues to pack many punches. This can be considered by some as the last season before the show goes into tranisiton mode from losing its regular past characters to introducing the new, now familiar faces. This season has some incredible episodes - and sees the departure of two main characters. The opening episodes explore Weaver coming to terms with her sexuality and Carter suffering the loss of his grandfather. As the season progresses, custody battles and illness are long running themes. Be prepared to be shocked, excited and have a hanky ready for the end of the series as ER bids farwell to its much loved central character. A definite must have for any ER fan - this series (perhaps along with series 6) is one of the very best!
