Cold Blood - Series 1 - Matthew Kelly as the cold-blooded serial killer could be cunning, manipulative, charming and intelligent one minute; and positively terrifying the next! You never knew what was really going on in his mind from one minute to the next. When he was on screen, you could not take your eyes off of him! He was a very complicated character who was also fascinating to watch!
Jemma Redgrave gave a wonderful performance as the detective who stood up to this cunning and cold-blooded serial killer. She was a very brave and intelligent character, yet still managed to show a soft and feminine side. She made you care about what was happening to her and what she was thinking. It must be really frightening for a woman to go into a room with a serial killer like Matthew Kelly even for a second, and wonder if she will ever even get out of the room alive! I can not even imagine, and yet Jemma Redgrave did it with style!
John Hannah as the ex-con trying to make it in the outside world, was quiet, introspective and seemed a little shy, yet he still managed to make you care about his character. Living alone up in the hills by himself must have been very lonely, with nothing to think about but what he had done in the past, and trying to live with his inner demons. He seemed to be trying to find peace within himself, and somehow make up for the horrible thing he had done, as much as he could.
Jemma Redgrave and John Hannah really made you care about the character's lives. They seemed to have such great on-screen chemistry together. Everyone in the entire production did an excellent job!
The "Behind the Scenes" featurette was very informative and lots of fun to watch! Matthew Kelly seemed so funny in real life, and yet gave an incredible performance as the serial killer. John Hannah and Jemma Redgrave were really charming.
The story was excellent and drew you into the drama from the very first scene. It was absolutely chilling in places. The relationship between Jemma Redgrave and John Hannah was fascinating. I never even thought about what a relationship like theirs would be like, and they were excellent in showing how they felt about each other, whether they said anything at all or not.
A very unusual storyline that was very well done. Hopefully, the stories will continue.
Are there still secrets to be revealed about the characters' lives? And of course, will John Hannah and Jemma Redgrave find happiness together?

The complete series of Cold Blood finally arrives on dvd. It was delayed because ITV made a final episode which wrapped up the series nicely. Serial killer Brian Wicklow (played by Matthew Kelly) is locked away in prisoner and plays a cat and mouse game with detective Eve (played by Jemma Redgrave) and ex con Jake (played by John Hannah). I won't go into plot details and ruin it for you but there a several "Silence Of The Lambs" moments. Needless to say there are twists and turns aplenty.
This 2 disk set cotains all 5 stories over two disks. The stories are Cold Blood, Cold Blood 2, Inteference, Dead And Buried and The Last Hurrah. Each story is excellent with only Dead And Buries being slightly weaker than the others. The supporting cast are excellent and include David Calder and Pauline Quirk. For me though, the scene stealer is Matthew Kelly who gives a chilling performance as the serial killer Brian Wicklow.
The picture quality is abit grainy on the first story but does improve. The sound quality is pritty good and the dvd is presented in 16.9 widescreen. The extras are abit limited - all you get is a Behind The Scenes featurette.
All in all this is a superb dvd package and well deserves the five stars I have awarded it.
