5 out of 5
I bought this DVD set on a whim, on the back of good reviews and basically looking for something quick to watch over a weekend. I have to say this really took me by surprise by how well written, acted and addictive it is. Being someone who usually goes for other HBO shows such as The Wire, Sopranos and Oz, I found this show just superb in a totally different way. I'd recommend it very highly personally.

It's all been said - slick, sharp and hilarious adult comedy from HBO. I wanted to post a warning though - this DVD is not widescreen, it is full screen (4:3, 1.33) aspect ratio - so either watch Vince in fat-o-vision or adjust your screen settings.
Not a really noticeable aspect ratio stretch effect, but *I* can see it, so thought I'd post a warning. Perhaps this is why this 2 disc DVD is at a bargain basement price! Why HBO took this decision for a production that is just a few years old is a puzzle.
Still superb stuff though and highly recommended.

I bought the DVD set of the first series of Entourage blind, on the strength of the reviews here. I also considered that with this being an HBO production, which also produces Curb Your Enthusiasm, Six Feet Under, and The Wire, that it was foolproof to buy something else out of the same stable.
What can I say... I was disappointed. The first series has little depth, the humour's flat, and in no way does this series compare to some of the other sharp witty series that have come from HBO. I found myself laughing a couple of times, but generally I had little sympathy or interest in many of the characters who mostly come across as being shallow and vain - which in itself isn't a problem if the script and acting portray it well, which they didn't particularly. I would have liked snappier dialogue and more well-developed, portrayed characters (other comedies manage to portray their characters well quickly, and have you caring for them in really short spaces of time - witness 6 Feet Under, or Arrested Development for example). This show doesn't.
Having said that I did think that Ari Gold was a great character and I can't see why he didn't get used more often. Maybe he should have his own spin-off show??!

This is a fast paced funny show that follows movie star Vincent and his friends who are his entourage. It shows the trials and tribulations of a movie star and his best friend trying to look after him and his interests. Be warned though the first season only has eight episodes and each episodes is only 25 minutes long. That is the reason why I havent given it 5 stars and the extras are not the best. If you don't have a lot of time to watch a huge season of drama and you want something fun, then this is definatley worth a look.
