Season 5 was officially the last season since ITV pulled the plug on the series shortly afterwards.Funnily enough, unlike another female-based series such as 'Sex and the City', Footballers Wives actually gained momentum with each new installment.
Some scenes are really tacky such as Amber praying to Buddha (Symbol of Peace) and invoking the name of Kali (The Goddess of Death).
Some resemblance to real life characters as indicated below;
Liberty - Naomi Campbell
Paulo Bardosa - Cristiano Ronaldo
Tremaine Gidigbi- Sol Campbell
Garry Ryan - David Sullivan
Callum Watson - Wayne Rooney
I didn't like Liberty's character and felt that Phina Oruche was miscast together with Chucky Venice (Tremaine). The pair just didn't seem to tick.
However, performance of the season should go to Garry Ryan who seems to have the best one-liners; the hee-haw he delivers after being kicked in the 'South' explains it all.
An amazing end to a truly unique series. - Reviewed on 2007-03-21

This was the last series of Footballers' Wives, and on the whole it wasn't the best (that accolade goes to the faultless Series 3), but the final episode was definitely the best episode of Footballers' Wives - ever! You will be gripped to the very end and the final scene will leave you on the edge of your seat. Some people may not like it (and to be fair, they didn't know this would be the last series when filming) but IMO, it's a fitting end, because tying up loose ends would just be boring - and this was one show that was never boring.
Classic of its type and never to be repeated (thank goodness) - Reviewed on 2006-12-29

Footballers' Wives was a British television drama surrounding the private lives of a group of professional footballers. It was immensely popular because of its soap opera format. The show centred around the fictional Earls Park Football Club (nicknamed 'Sparks'). The Series was produced by Liz Lake, Claire Phillips and Cameron Roach.
The show began as an ensemble of three different 'types' of football couple. However, from the third series on, the show more or less revolved around the character Tanya Turner.
An American version of the series is being developed by the ABC and Touchstone Television-based producers Chris Brancato and Bert Salke. (not sure if it will be American Footy tho).
Series Five - 2006
Widowed Amber suspects that it was Bruno who shot Conrad, but can't prove it, so she seduces him and moves in with him, slowly trying to make him think he is losing his mind. Getting more desperate, Amber tries to poison and then shoot Bruno. In the struggle, she ended up shooting Roger Webb, who lost his sight. Amber was then sectioned and left the show.
Shannon, now divorced from Harley and feeling lonely, was delighted to hook up with new Earls Park signing Callum Watson. Shannon moved Callum in; however, his interfering mother came with him and caused havoc. New characters included Tremaine and Liberty, who married in Episode 5 in a Egyptian-themed, typically over-the-top wedding. Liberty, a top supermodel, was caught out by the press having a lesbian affair with her P.A. Urszula, and then was shamed by starring in a Japanese advert that made her out to be a cannibal. Tremaine, who had been in prison previously, had to control his temper at his wife's crazy exploits.
Tanya Turner-Laslett-Federico returned, once Amber was out of the way, and set about seducing the latest star of Earls Park, Paulo Bardoso. However, his lover, glamorous magazine editor Eva De Wolffe (Joan Collins), stood in the way. They had a few catfights before it was revealed Eva was actually Paulo's adoptive mother. Tanya's joy at snatching Paulo from Eva's clutches was short-lived; he was taken to a hospital after a breakdown, and she found herself penniless.
After Roger lost his sight, he met with a nasty accident down a lift shaft. It was caused by Garry Ryan, the club chairman, who wanted Roger out of the way. Tanya discovered evidence that proved his involvement and promised Roger's newly-made widow Jackie, who left the show to join son Kyle in Australia, that she would get revenge. However, as series five ended, Garry was offering Tanya some cocaine laced with poison, just as she was trying to come to a "settlement" with him over the tape recording that proved he caused Roger's death.

I'm so looking forward to this series on DVD. The last series of this show is even more wonderfully outrageous and ridiculous than ever. I love it.

The scandalous wives are back for one last time in the final series of footballers wives. Bruno is planning to marry Lucy but will she marry him? A new signing arrives at earls park in the form of Tremaine Gidigbi along with his supermodel girlfriend Liberty baker, but she is hiding a secret that could ruin there relationship. Ultimate footballers wive Tanya Turner returns to the UK after her husband dies in brazil and instanly falls for another young footballer Paulo Bardosa, but he already has a girlfriend international magazine editor Eva de Wolffe (Joan Collins) who will go to great lengths to keep her man which causes Tanya and Eva to fight it out.
