Don't listen to the negative reviews here on Amazon.co.uk- they are wrong(in my opinion any way). There are not any songs that are as good as the song 'The Reason'. However, there are some that come close.

The best songs are: 'Born To Lead', 'Without A Fight' and 'If I Were You'. 'Born To Lead' is probably the catchiest song on the album and has awesome lyrics and makes for a great song.

'The First of Me' moves at a slower pace, but is still one of the best songs on the album. It has more in common with 'The Reason', than 'Out Of Control'. It is a really powerful song with good lyrics.

This is definetly Hoobastanks most consistant album and one of my personal favourites. And you gotta love the name. 'Every man For Himself'. look at that, its the name of a 'LOST' episode. Sorry. I'll stop now. Buy this album!!!

The most recent episode of Hoobastank's 8 year reign has been the release of the 4th album "Every Man For Himself". Yes, the music has changed over the years. The band began in 1998 with Basketball Shorts, not excellent music, it has to be said, but still manages to grab your attention. The best of that bunch being Earthsick.

Moving into the 00's, and a new era, new music and deservedly far more successful, although their success over the years hasn't really done Doug and the gang any justice. Hoobastank and The Reason really showed a great love of good music, with some great songs including What Happened To Us, Let You Know and Escape.

Could they go that 1 step further. Well, yes and to my amazement. This latest installment is superb. It becomes more musical, more of a melody whislt remaining off the pop like teen genre.

My ultimate favourite has to be If Only and now my all time favourite song. Other superb songs include The First Of Me, More Than A Memory, Born To Lead and If I Were You and thats only the pick of a magnificent bunch.

If you haven't heard of Hoobastank and haven't got even as close as picking up one of their albums or downloading their music, you really haven't lived.

Thank Mr. Robb, Estrin and co. for this, it is that good.

I've been a big fan of Hoobastank for many years, so when I heard about 'Every Man For Himself' I preordered a copy straight away and I was in for a bit of a shock.

Traditionally, Hoobastank have been teenie-rock which bridges the gap between hard grungie bands like Limp Bizkit, 'adult' rock like Funeral for a Friend and, to a degree, McFly. Their songs are melodic, harmonic and full of big key changes which are driven along by a strong beat; and for these reasons I think they're great.

However, with this album I think they were trying to move in a different direction and try and change this 'teen rock' image. There is still their signature driving rhythms and chunky chords but theyre set in this weird neo-rock facade. The first track is an architypal american military drill officer shouting commands and cheesy insults ('you bunch of girl scouts') which leads into 'Born to Lead' which is a great track to open the album to.

The first time I listened to the album I was actually quite disappointed. Many of the songs open with the *worst* openings imaginable. It sounds like a keyboard from 1991 playing the main motif from the song before the real band start and I really hate this, I think it sounds terrible. Also, at the start of 'Moving Forward' sounds like Queen in Bohemian Rhapsody or something with a bunch of voices wailing 'at least im moving forward'. Finally, in the last track I started laughing when the castanets and accordion came in. It sounded like 'Allo Allo?' or something.

That said I think this is a very good album, admittedly you have to listen to it a few times to get into the swing of things and have to listen to the songs all the way through, even if you really want to change it because they all have good parts. I can say though, that 'First of me' is terrible. Ill never like that song; the words 'Im not the last of them, Im the first of me' must have taken months to think up.

But I do heartily recommend it and try not to think about their earlier stuff when listening to it. If you like Hoobastank, try and find some stuff by Switchfoot. They're fantastic especially 'We Are One Tonight' 'Ammunition' and 'We Were Meant To Live' theyre brilliant. My favourite songs of all time come from these 2 bands so they cant be all bad!

Like many people, if you say the name "Hoobastank", I automatically start humming their huge 2004 hit single "The Reason". For those in the know, "Every Man for Himself" is in fact the group's third studio album, following the self-titled album in 2001 and of course "The Reason" two years later.

The track on this album that comes closest to the made-for-radio appeal of the aforementioned hit would be the single "If I Were You", a ballad with simple lyrics but a lot of emotion:

"If I were you
holding the world right in my hands
the first thing I'd do
is thank the stars for all that I have
if I were you"

For rock fans, the tracks for you are "Born to Lead", "Inside of You", "Without a Fight", and "Look Where We Are", and if you're a power ballad lover, you just have to hear "Moving Forward", "The First of Me", "Good Enough", "Don't Tell Me", "Say The Same", "If Only" (great song - hope they make it a single) and "More Than a Memory".

If you were lucky enough to get the two bonus tracks, "Finally Awake" is a driving rock performance and while "Waiting" is a little softer, it's also very good.

Almost an hour long, this is another CD worth collecting.

A simply brilliant album from the band that a huge hit with the reason.
I bought this after constantly listening to their last album and this new one doesn't dissapoint. In fact i think its even better.
With no filler songs and all tracks with the potential to be singles, i have to say my current faves are If I Were You and Don't Tell Me. They all have brilliant lyrics and guitar riffs.
You seriously do not have to be into rock to listen to this.
Trust me buy it, you wont regret it
