Fifa Street on PSP... Gamewinner? - Reviewed on 2008-02-28

The original Fifa Street was a brilliant game. Imaginative and fun, and everything worked. I was totally letdown by Fifa Street 2 on PS2, as they changed everything- no DJ, bad combos, and awful Gamebreaker mode! It took me a long time to get over this game before trying the PSP version.
It's actually quite hard to describe Fifa Street 2 on PSP. It really is like a cross between Fifa Street and Fifa Street 2, in a strange way. With some good and bad of each, but more bad in my opinion. One thing that I can sympathize with is the lack of another analog stick, as it is really needed here as otherwise you can only use triangle for moves, and that is restricting. I think the Trick Stick was essential to the other games. Also... there is no DJ OR music in the match!!! Whichever you prefer it's just strange not having anything. Hey a good point to this game- it's still got some fifa street feel and so is pretty fun to play, but this quickly wears off, as much as I wanted to like it.
The career mode is like the original game which is good. You play street games, win tournaments and acquire players etc. However, it's pretty repetitive. You could say this is the same for Fifa Street 1 I guess, but when you had lots more moves and options it didn't feel like a chore playing another game to get a new player. There are also mini games in the UMD, but like the main gameplay these are not very creative at all.
The first Fifa Street blew me away, and if they had made that game identically for PSP it would have been great. I see Fifa Street 2 for PSP like a missed opportunity, it feels very rushed. I think a Fifa Street for PSP would have worked much better than a portable Pro Evo or Fifa game, because of the arcade like gameplay, but that speed doesn't come through here. So I would still really recommend Fifa Street 1 for PS2, but for PSP the latest Pro Evo or Fifa 08 would be the best choice for a football game.

This is a top footie game and i would recommend this to all. This is also good for first time footie game players as the game is neither easy or hard and the controls are easy to figure.Overall this is a brilliant game and hope theres going to be a fifa street 3

This game is amazingly addictive. I bought it cos i have the 1st xbox fifa street and this psp game tops it BIG time. You havent got the annoying commentator which for me is a bonus. The negatives...Well you can't watch your goals replays (which is annoying when you score an amazing goal!)and the tricks you can do are limited. And theres no dead ball situations in street footie so for all you David Beckham fans, doing spot kicks and corners wont happen!
For a psp game though, the graphics are as good as the xbox and you can create a player so putting yourself in the game is cool and as a small bonus you can make yourself look musclely without doing any excersise. I would recomend buying the psp holder which turns gives you 'handles' to hold the psp else you will find yourself with bad arm cramps!
This game to sum it up, not only kills time, it draws you into the game, lasts months (theres no 3 hour complition on this) and is alot better than any 'Pro' type footie game ( as you can push your opposing teams into the floor and theres no ref to tell u off!). Any football fans with a psp will be addicted! BUY THIS GAME!!!

This game shouldn't be so much fun, it's repetative and erm, repetative.
That said, when I want something to play for a quick half hour this always ends up in the back of my psp. Sure, it's far to easy. Sure, every single match is exactly the same, and sure there are a few niggles with the engine at times, but for a quick burst of entertainment,it is really rather good.
You can now 'counter' the tricks (beats) from the opposition, something which made the first Fifa street such a let down. And The first time you do a new trick it can be pretty cool. And in small doses it can keep you occupied.
Another thing to mention is the soundtrax. As always EA has some wkd tunes with this game, and the Drum n Bass tracks really do seem suit the speed of the game. The game interface is easy to use and intuitive.
And the game as a package is highly polished, (apart from the games AI which can be a little random at times)
But in summary, this game is fun. It's by no means a classic but if you can pick up a copy on the cheap it's well worth a go. It'll keep you occupied for short periods and is instantly pick-upable.
