Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Amazon.co.uk Review

Peter Kay has rightly earned himself a reputation as one of the country???s finest comedians, mixing in wry observations, northern humour and good, old-fashioned joke-telling at its finest. And yet even the most ardent Kay-fan, including this reviewer, would have to concede that this DVD release of Peter Kay--Live At Manchester Arena is a misstep.

It???s not that the material here isn???t funny, as frequently it is. Kay???s observations on the likes of Crimewatch, Bullseye, the daft things that people say and weddings hit home with resounding accuracy. Yet all this has been delivered before on a far better DVD. His Live At The Bolton Albert Halls disc, released two years??? prior to this one, is a taping made on exactly the same tour, and as a result, the material across the two discs is virtually identical. Furthermore, the show on this latest release is cut down to a dramatically shorter length. Save for a strong DVD extra that takes you behind the scenes of his tour, there???s simply no reason that anyone who bought the previous release should fork out for this one.

Kay???s talents are undisputed, and the aforementioned Live At The Bolton Albert Halls DVD is a must-have for fans of strong stand-up comedy. But you really should give Live At The Manchester Arena a miss, and treat is as the unwelcome cash cow it clearly is.--Simon Brew

It is the same show as his Bolton DVD, simply because it was the same tour, he's not going to change every show! It is a fantastic show and well worth seeing!
Peter Kay's One Routine In Yet Another Release! - Reviewed on 2008-10-15
Rating: ★ 1 out of 5

Make no mistake, this was funny when it was first released. But now it's a tired old routine that any comedian worth their salt would have moved on from years ago. Not Kay. He just releases exactly the same thing again and again expecting us to buy another DVD just to hear him say the same things. If this is all he's got, he ought at least to have the dignity to shuffle off stage with a solid release under his belt. The repackaging of the SAME MATERIAL loses my respect and makes me question if he was any good to begin with.

I can't believe what I'm reading when I see one star reviews for this DVD it is, without a doubt, comedy gold. I confess to not seeing any of his other DVD's so the whole 'its all the same as before' stuff might well be true, but who cares! Certainly not me. It is a must buy for any comedy fan, especially if its the first time you watch a Peter Kay DVD.

I too was excited when I found out Peter Kay was releasing a new DVD and, like the previous reviewers, I was gutted when I got this. I too own the Top of the Tower and the Mum Wants a Bungalow DVDs. Even if you don't own them, don't buy this, buy the other two separately, it's worth the extra few pounds it'll cost you. This is still funny, but the other two are much much better. For me, even the extras that are on this DVD don't make up for the re-hashing of the other two DVDs.

Its Hilaarious! But i know many people who don't get it at all! Its only funny because hes mocking his family and quite a few of his jokes are hard to understand if you don't know a northerner. i know i throughaly enjoyed it though! It Made it twice as funny, as My Grandparents do the "hello it ya gandad.." thing and my great aunt was actaully on bullsye. And i've been to many a party where theres been an "uncle Knobhead". Hilarious!!!
