Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Amazon.co.uk Review:

In a nutshell:
The latest retro movie license puts you in the ultra sweary shoes of Tony Montana as you fight to build back your drugs empire and help to rewrite the ending of the movie with the help of your little friend.

The lowdown:
It???s hard not to think of Grand Theft Auto when you see this game, not least because Vice City ripped off most of the movie???s soundtrack and key scenes. Although it features lots of automotive carnage and third person shooting, Scarface does try its best to offer some new features, as you buy fronts for your cocaine business, launder money and slowly raise your reputation with gangs across Miami. Where it falls down though is in the story missions, which require you to complete a lot of laborious sub quests and often include some fairly silly objectives. The otherwise authentic atmosphere is usually just enough to keep things ticking over though, particularly for movie fans.

Most exciting moment:
The best part of the game is definitely the combat and the one area where the game is definitely superior to Grand Theft Auto. Aiming is helped by a handy lock-on system and there???s even a first-person rage mode for when Tony???s maxes out his "balls" meter.

Since you ask:
Although Al Pacino???s real face is used in the game, he hasn???t recorded any new dialogue. However, the game does feature original cast members Steven Bauer and Robert Loggia, as well as celeb voiceovers from the likes of Ricky Gervais, James Woods and Cheech & Chong.

The bottom line:
No Grand Theft Auto beater but an interesting companion to the movie.- HARRISON DENT

I was a bit weary of buying a game based on a movie, but I have to say... this is one of the most addictive games I've played in a long time. I think this game surpasses Grand Theft Auto. While the GTA series has derivative characters, when you play Scarface you actually feel like you're in control of the genuine article - Tony Montana! The features that really makes this game stand apart from GTA and other sandbox games is the following:

1. The ability to accumulate vast amounts of money - This ties in well with the gameplay (In GTA you acquire money but not as much as in Scarface and seems pretty pointless). The ability to save your money in the bank and the amount of exotics and cars you unlock is worth playing the game for alone. You're also awarded reputation levels which unlock further exotics.
2. Realistic: You can't shoot civilians or evade the police as easily as in GTA. In fact if you try to shoot a civilian Tony will say something like "That's not my style, man". If you hit a car while driving dispatch notifies the police and continue to drive recklessly and you'll soon be surrounded by police. This adds more depth to the game and intelligence - note you're awarded credit for near-misses and hand brake turns when driving similar to Burn-out.
3. The Graphics: For a PS2 the graphics are superb and as one reviewer has already said make GTA look like a PSOne game. Tony Montana looks incredible and his voice is impersonated perfectly.

I thoroughly enjoy playing this game and recommend it to anyone above 18!

I would say Scarface is my favorite movie. The movie is amazing.Pacino plays a great role as a foul-mouthed cuban immigrant Tony Montana who tries to make it in the Miami drug world during the 1980's.The film was 3 hours long,it was entertaining, had great acting and a great storyline and I loved it!.When the game came out I was excited. However it got a 6.4 on gamespot so I would not want to spend 40.00 quid on it.I got it for xmas and I have been playing it.The game changes the ending of the film.(SPOILERS for the Scarface movie) in the end of the movie.Tony Montana died but in this one you get to play as Tony in the final shootout in the mansion and you have to blow away all of Sosa's henchmen including "the skull".The rest of the game is basically you rebuilding your criminal empire and trying to get revenge on Sosa. The game is almost like a Grand Theft Auto clone. You must do missions, buy assets, you can steal cars etc.But it is a bit different from GTA because you cannot kill pedestrians. This is one of the negative aspects of the game.I understand Tony is a man who does not like harming innocent people but it would have been more fun if you could kill pedestrians. There are gang members everywhere and you must kill them to take over their turf. There are drug dealers which you can sell drugs to or kill them. You can also kill the cops. The game takes place in the 1980's and there are only a few songs from the 80's.It has the entire OST of the Scarface film and some other 80's hits but their could have been much more.We didn't really need Reggae or country music. You don't have to be in your car when you listen to music. You can listen to it when you're walking or shooting people. The controls take some time getting used to but their alright once you get the hang of it.Another cool feature in this game is the blind rage mode. There is a "balls" meter on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. You can get "Balls" by taunting people you kill or by driving very close to another car. There are a few ways to get "balls".When your meter is full, you can go into a first person shooter mode, you have unlimited bullets and you cannot be damaged.Every enemy you kill in rage mode will give you +200 health.Scarface The World Is Yours is a good game that's worth playing.

The first thing you notice about this game are the graphics. It makes the GTA games on PS2 look like PS1 games. Of course there are similarities between this and the GTA games but there are many gameplay innovations which actually surpass Rockstar's efforts.

Pressing L2 enables Tony to access the menu on his satellite phone. From here Tony can access missions, call a car or a boat and reduce the heat he gets from gangs or the cops. There are eight different reputation levels and each one enables Tony to further his missions, access new weapons and purchase new exotics from the exotics catalogue. Once the rage meter is full Tony can enter blind rage mode. The game switches to first-person mode and Tony is invincible until the rage meter goes down. Five Henchmen can be purchased and some have their own missions. The Arms Dealer will supply weapons to the locker of any car in Tony's garage. The Assassin and Enforcer are excellent for taking out problem gangs. Any money that Tony makes must be laundered at the nearest Bank. This is also where the game is saved. When he is not busy, Tony can walk up to almost any passer-by and enter into a converstion.

Weapons range from pistols to the missile launcher. The AK-47 can be upgraded with a shotgun attachment. The Carbine Assault Rifle can be upgraded with a grenade launcher. There are many cars and boats for Tony to purchase as his reputation increases. The Bacinari is a Lamborghini in all but name. The Fellini is a Ferrari in all but name. The Ariel is a single-seater sports car with the very best overall performance - ideal for the many races on the islands. Tony also has access to Armoured Cars, Trucks and even a Bulldozer. There are no aircraft to fly in this game.

For me the best part of the game are the distribution missions. After buying drugs from a large supplier, Tony needs to drive to each of his fronts to make pick-ups and then finish at a Bank. The problem is Tony is pursued all over the island by rival gangs in cars and his fronts are most likely to be attacked at this time. Tony must eliminate all the attacking gang members and repair his damaged fronts.

When I first started playing this game I thought it was tedious but after getting used to the controls and gaemplay it became highly enjoyable. It would not surprise me if Rockstar "borrow" some of the ideas in the game. Recommended? Yes.
