A great box set - Reviewed on 2006-08-08

OK so there are no extra's but I'm not complaining.
What you do get is 39 discs, all 6 series, over 94 hours of medieval magic. The on screen chemistry between Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor is superb, and there is a great comedy element largely provided by Ted Raimi as Joxer and occasionally by the manic Bruce Campbell as Autolycus in guest appearances.
There are so many stand-out episodes, from the start where Xena picks up Gabrielle, Death in Chains, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, One Against an Army, it gets a little weaker and a little too philosophical in the episodes with Eli but more than makes up for that with the later Norse gods episodes.
The series plays havoc with any thoughts of time-lines and geography, we have David and Goliath, Julius Caesar, Hercules, Aries, Ulysses, Boadicea, Ares, Pheidippides and the Spartans, Homer. Hell it's a fantasy series, why not?
This is one of those series that I kept catching odd episodes of and never too many on the trot. I got this set as soon as I saw it was being released, if you have the individual box sets keep them. With no extras it does not justify the extra cost and the prices being asked do smack a little of profiteering, but if people are willing to pay!
In closing I have to say it is a very impressive package and I do not regret the initial outlay. Outstanding.

As I'd missed the last three series of Xena when it was originally on TV - and didn't fancy purchasing the volumes separately (I'm sure that all of the series would have come to a higher price than the box set) I decided to get this.
What a good decision it was.
The box consists of a hard cardboard sleeve, with a book-type insert that houses the discs. Four discs are mounted on each page with the type of spindle that you find inside cd cases. Each page has a montage of different scenes from the episodes on the back.
The numbering of the episodes can be a little confusing, so if you don't remember which disc you last watched, you can sometimes accidentally skip a disc!
There are usually four episodes per disc, with the last of the series volumes being two or three episodes (depending on how big a volume is).
Other than a few photo galleries there are no special features, but it is still worth the purchase, especially if you have missed episodes.

A complete list of episode names adorns the back of the box.

It's just parts 1 and 2 of the season boxsets repackaged - Reviewed on 2005-01-11

Now,as I said in the title,it's just the parts 1 and 2 season boxsets repackaged,so if you already have the season boxsets I would n't advise buying this. What's more the total price of the season boxsets online is cheaper than this boxset anyway. So,why did I give it five stars?Well ,essentially if like me you are a Xenite this is a good Xena product, however I would wait till it goes down in price, because over ??200 and no special features (except photo gallerys)is essentially a rip off. However,in conclusion I feel this is a quality product,so if you want it, buy it...however I cogitate that only true Xena fans should buy this release, because it is a lot of money!

The complete adventures of the Warrior Princess come to DVD in a fab limited edition (internet only) box set. Starring the wonderful Lucy Lawless, Xena helped redefine genre television. A new kind of hero, Xena was an icon of the 90's -kicking ass with a style and confidence Buffy Summers could only dream of emulating when she grew up. From the knowingly camp to the achingly sad Lucy Lawless (Xena) and Rennee O'connor ('sidekick' Gabrielle)consistently performed as the best double-act on T.V. Highly recommended.
