This is a well priced dvd boxset is the first thing i wish to say,combining season 1 and season 2 together along with more extras than you can shake a stick at this is a boxset that others should try to replicate.
Seinfeld is a show that i heard off but had never seen,it wasnt a major success in its time in eire or the uk,and reruns are also pretty hard to find on tv so that was that for me.However when i watched all of curb your enthuasism,and noted that seinfeld was co-created and sometimes written by larry david who was the star and brains behind curb then i had to check it out,and to top that off a cousin of mine said that it was better than curb then it had to be done,and im glad i got this and its great but it aint better than curb yet,just to end that argument for the time being anyway.
Seinfeld is the self professed show about nothing,i can understand what they mean by that in some ways but if the show was really about nothing then nothing would happen and i as a reviewer would have little to say.The show doesnt have overblown theatrical moments flowing throughout but there is a scenario in each episode and a clue to that is given in each of the titles to the show.
The show is cynical,sometimes awkward and pretty american but it is funny.It centres around four friends all of whom have their own traits,jerry seinfeld plays himself more or less,he is a stand up comedian who counts george,who is neurotic,off the handle and thinks way too much as his best friend,kramer is their neighbour who is wacky,slightly mad but reliable and elaine is the token female of the group who is a bit dizzy at times.The four main characters are close and most of the adventures feature all of them or at least 2 or 3.
Season 1 starts off a little slow but that was always going to be the way,time is needed to get inside the characters ways,and when you understand then the good times keep rolling,season 2 is glorious at times,episodes like 'the pony remark','the jacket' and 'the phone message' are just brilliant.
Everyone states that th show gets better as each series passes so thats something to look forward too,series three is what i will get next and im sure that i will become a fan of this show.

Seinfeld is an acquired taste, but oh boy, once you've acquired the taste you will never lose it I promise you. Don't be put off because you hate run-of-the-mill US comedy shows, with the appalling canned laughter and forced gags; Seinfeld has none of these. The studio audience laughter is real and the gags honed to perfection. Instead you have genuine comedy, in the sharp Jewish vein, scripted by people who really cared and acted by one of the best comedy acting teams ever assembled. The chemistry between them is sublime. Unlike most DVD compilations you will find yourself watching these over and over again. Your addiction will be complete.

When it first appeared on the scene Seinfeld was something different, 'a comedy about nothing' it was also very funny and light years ahead of other comedy shows. When it finished a few years ago it had only got better.

Centred around Jerry Seinfeld (top stand-up Jerry Seinfeld playing against type)- a stand-up comedian living in New York mulls over the minutiae of the mundane with childhood pal George Kostanza (a short, dum-witted bald man with a chip on his a shoulder), Kramer (the gangly, kooky neighbour who eats Jerry out of house and home) and Elaine (Feisty female & Jerry's Ex who's now part of the gang) in his apartment and the coffee shop. Seinfeld - like most great comedies - also boasts strong background characters such as Jerry's nemesis Newman and particularly both George and Jerry's parents.

The first season shows itself as such, with actors growing into the characters - Jerry in particular as an untrained actor took a season to transfer his on stage persona to the small screen. This is made up for in the quality of the writing and the genius of the plot twists and intricacies. Both the writing and the bizarre plots would be a Seinfeld trademark throughout the following seasons.

This is a genuine treat of a DVD - backed with a smorgasbord of extras (commentaries/out-takes/deleted scenes/Footage of Jerry's stand up material and more) - you must buy this package. Seinfeld is without doubt one of the funniest shows ever. Were it not for The Simpsons there would be no doubt as to the funniest show of the 1990s, that's how good Seinfeld is.
