Amazon.co.uk Review

Will & Grace debuted with a controversial splash because one of its two lead characters is gay--but smart writing and topnotch performances, not politics, have made the show a hit. Two neurotic and sharp-tongued urbanites--gay lawyer Will (Eric McCormack) and straight interior designer Grace (Debra Messing)--delight in their volatile but enduring friendship as they share a sumptuous New York apartment. Sweeping into the mix are Will's unapologetically queeny friend Jack (Sean Hayes) and Grace's wildly eccentric assistant Karen (Megan Mullally). Much like Seinfeld, the humour on Will & Grace springs from self-obsession, petty jealousy, and compulsive interfering in each other's lives--basically, the building blocks of human nature. The show's writers apparently feel compelled to keep the lead characters warm and likeable in the usual sitcom mode (which hardly seems necessary, as McCormack and Messing are naturally engaging). As a result, it's Jack and Karen who get free reign to be truly obnoxious and ridiculous--which, of course, makes them incredibly funny and charismatic. Hayes and Mullally rise to the occasion, ripping through absurd situations and arias of narcissistic wit with dazzling panache.

Will & Grace's plots routinely center around scenarios that could feature a married couple or two same-sex roommates: Will and Grace bicker over buying a dog, find their relationship tested by apartment renovations, or discover they're both pursuing the same guy--standard sitcom material that the gay factor gives a clever spin. Though their relationship gets in the way of their sex lives, the two take so much pleasure in each other's company that they can't help but stick together--a surprisingly chaste theme for such a culturally groundbreaking show, but one that Will & Grace's addicted audience undoubtedly appreciates. --Bret Fetzer

To my opionion Will & Grace is better than Friends. Probably because of the gay theme and becuse the characters manages to be both more 'over the top' yet more plausible at the same time. (Friends beeing incredibly unrealistic whilst trying to be true to life). Having seen all shows of both (YES - I have got a life too) you get the suspicion that the writers are the same or at least influenced by each other since many plot-lines have striking similarities.
Often you feel sorry for Will since he never "get's any" even though he's got the necessary appeal. This is problaby - and sadly - a concession to make the show go down (no pun..) better in the American households.

If it weren't for the brilliant performances of Megan Mullally (Karen) and Sean Hayes (Jack) the show would have passed me by pretty unnoticed but their characters are wonderfully anarchistic in the otherwise pretty "PC" environment.

Will and Grace is one of the best sitcoms ever made(along with Scrubs and the ultimate programme that has ever been on t.v.,The Simpsons). It has an excellent guest star list(Sharon Ozbourne,John Cleese,Madonna,Jack Black,Joan Colins,Demi Moore,Minnie Driver,Ellen DeGeneres,Cher and Elton John). Buy it now.

i've seen will and grace 1-6 (because that is all that's been aired and am dying to see season 7.i've got 1-4 and am waiting anxiously for five which i've pre-orderd. i beleieve will and grace is way better than frasier, seinfeld, friends or any thing else. better yet, i know so. also the extra's are hilarious: bloopers, themed short montages and interviews (and more of course)...
in general, i love will and grace and am a true fan.
