Not The Nine O'Clock News - The Best Of Not The Nine O'Clock News - Vol. 2 - Reviewed on 2007-09-28

You've got to love this show; it's just a shame the DVD's are edited and BBC don't seem to be bothered about releasing any more material. The BBC has released Red Dwarf, Blackadder etc on DVD in their entirety and un-edited but Not the Nine O'Clock News appears to have been overlooked. Extras and bonus features would be nice but BBC please, please, please give the show the respect it deserves and release the full series' and unedited.

I initially decided to buy NTNOCN because I love Rowan Atkinson's performances. I never watched 'Not the Nine O Clock News' when the repeats were on, I guess I wasn't interested back then but anyway... I love this show! I've never seen Rowan Atkinson so looking so young and fresh before - Griff Rhys Jones, Mel Smith and Pamela Stephenson are all great. I especially enjoy the songs they sing together or alone.
I bought both volumes 1 & 2 and only wish the BBC would release full series boxsets with all the episodes and perhaps some extra features in them - that would be a great buy for sure!
I am certain they could have put more material on this DVD. 97 minutes seems very little for the capacity a single DVD could hold. Am I right in thinking that they only transferred the VHS releases to digital format in these DVD releases? Anyway, I love the show and hope they release more DVDs with more value for money.
Nice DVD, shame about the extras - Reviewed on 2005-09-06

Another lazy release by the Beeb - this is simply the VHS release titled "Nice Video Shame About The Hedgehog" transferred onto DVD with the pathetic DVD extras being listed as "subtitles and scene selection"

Not the Nine O'Clock news deserves a better tribute than this - why didn't the BBC put a bit of effort in and reunite the cast and producers for a special feature on the show?

The feature making it worthy of purchase is the sheer quality of the comedy which remains fresh even today in a TV world where comedy standards have dropped as low as Little Britain.

Okay, I was told a lie and like to see original series' - Reviewed on 2004-09-02

I first watched NTNON in 1995 when I was 9 when it was repeated and I liked every moment of it, I bought the videos as a sign of my enjoyment. Although I have to say I'm rather disappointed with the fact the BBC won't show the original sketches in series/ episode order, who cares if they have aged I would still think its funny. On digital they show original 'Two Ronnies' sketches and Have I Got News For You. Also before I purchased this DVD I read it would be unedited which it was wrong. To get a bit more humour I have the original LP's to listen to get some more sketches and they are great also the book aswell, but BBC2 won't show them, its time they have to because it is a legend plus it is coming up to its 25th anniversary in October.
