Graphics are pretty lame, trying to give you that gritty feel and impersonate a 1967 tv set. If they wanted to make it feel gritty, they should of cleared up the tv effect, made it darker (like saving private ryan) and made it 1st person. Its annoying how the enemy always use 2 lines or so like "I kill you GI" and "Die American!" it's just pretty childish. I found it more amusing watching the little gooks run around firing thier AK's like a toy then actually trying to fight them. The sniper rifle is lame and simple, and the feel of all weapons is like firing a pea shooter. There's no depth to the game, it's simple orders and no realism apart from the explosions, which can be classed as fairy attractive for that game genre. I feel there are only 2 good levels on the whole of that game, and that was the urban fighting (near the end of the game) and the level where they are in the jungle. The level which involved you taking out a few generals using stealth and with the sniper rifle is just ludacris! No matter how slow you walk or how quiet you try to be, they always spot you! It's a good game... for a couple of hours, like a stop-gap, any longer then that and you will want to blow yourself up from frustration at how stupid the AI is (at this point i will mention the AI are so dumb that they actually shoot thier own soldiers thinking its the US??) I gave it a 4 star for fun, because its just a laugh watching tiny VC soldiers run around with thier little pop guns and pathetic attempts at scaring you and it can be amusing, but ultimately its just a 3 star with hope of becoming something better. Good try, but buy Men of Valor instead.. Now that's a good Vietnam war simulator!!

Ok, i'll give it to you straight...this is the COOLEST WAR GAME EVER!
I have played every MOH, brothers in arms, battlefield 1942 and even Vietcong:Purple Haze and I have to say Shellshock is better than all of them!
The game provides all decent features a good war game should have.It has a simple but effective storyline, a gritty nature, good graphics and even a good soundtrack.
While the game is gritty in nature, it is relitvly simple and only has 11 levels.
It is very entertaining (blowing people to bits!) and fun to play.It provides an arsenal of weapons and explosives along with helpful allies and deadly VC (Vietcong).
The gritty nature just makes the game more fun to play and it is very addictive.If you are a very good gamer you should have it completed in about 2 or 3 days.
You can take the easy option and just get a bronze star on each level or you can go for the big leagues and try to get silver and/or gold.
Although the game is quite old it is still (in my opinion) one of the best war games out.The explosions and killing should provide ours of gameplay. But its not only the gritty nature that makes it good, the music is very entertaining and following the story is fun too!

(it is just a shame it is an 18 because little ones would love it!)

i decided to buy this game simply because i enjoyed studying vietnam in history. i hadnt rented it, playd a demo or seen footage of it. When it came through the post and i started playing it i felt like i was in the screen. one time i saw smoke and i tried to cough in real life for no reason. That is what i call realism. The game has a realistic combat system with every part of the body available to be destroyed. The game is easy to complete in easy mode and only getting a bronze star every level. If you want to find a challenge try doing it on medium or getting silver stars. This gives the game great depth and extends its life. there is 11 missions wich are vast and full of trophies and everything you could think of. you are given the choice if you want to be stealthy or not in just about every level because you can just sneak around picking the vc off or you can go gung ho and take their heads off. literaly. i would personally recommend this game to most people as it gives you great pleasure when you complete the levels and is very rewarding.

Crikey! On the face of it shellshock has all the ingredients to make for a gritty, compelling (dare I say fun) 3rd person shooter. However, after completing the game in under 7 hours on (not very)hard mode, all i can say is that you should hang on to your precious cash and purchase Vietcong purple haze instaed.

The graphics are truly atrocious and everything has a grainy look to it (a la silent hill 2). Frequent crashing and jerky camera panning embarass the xbox, and it is obvious that the coders have not spent any time at all on improving the look of the game on my beloved console. The standard of presentation is great until you actually start to play the game and then its substandard gaystation 2 mode all the way. True, the content is "adult" in nature, and you can do things like play hide the salami with the natives (great if you are under 18 and a giggling adolescent - unfortunately the games rated 18!). All the interactions between you and your comrades are entirely irrelevant to your progression through the game, and a few sweare words and popped heads flung into the mix do not make for a good game. This kind of title may well please pre-pubescent playstaion owners, but for the rest of the known universe it is too early for turkey. Avoid the horror the horror.. of this good example of slack programming and hang on to your cash people.

P.s it would have got 1 star but for the great soundtrack - its only decent feature.

Shellshock is a great game its intresting hard and it has great graphics.It can be a little frustrating at times but dont let that put you off. If you like gore and pure action this is the game for you. The Ai is like real life if the enemy is wounded they try and crawl to cover or still willingly try to shoot you, DONT MISS THIS GAME.
