Amazon.co.uk Review

There can't be any more sure-fire a hit in the gaming world than Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Grandma may not approve, but the 143 million people who bought GTA III will be chomping at the bit for this follow-up. Not quite a full-blown sequel, but far more than the average lazy mission disk, Vice City relocates the action of the previous game from the New York-esque Liberty City to the Miami-influenced metropolis of the title. And clearly as soon as someone mentioned Miami the developers immediately thought of Miami Vice, because they've gone and set the whole thing in 1986 with an incredible soundtrack featuring everyone from Michael Jackson to Sigue Sigue Sputnik.

As the game starts you take control of Tommy Vercetti (voiced by Goodfellas star Ray Liotta) who gets involved in a bungled drug deal and must set himself up from scratch as a crime boss. Unlike in GTA III, you're not restricted to being a small-time hood any more; the game now allows you to purchase property (porn studios, strip clubs, cab companies and so on) and run extortion rackets, which cleverly widens the scope of the game while keeping the controls and gameplay pretty much the same. Which means that you still spend the majority of your time driving cars very dangerously and shooting and maiming anyone that happens to get in your way. Indeed, in most respects the game is very similar to its predecessor--the graphics, for example, are improved but hardly groundbreaking--though there are numerous minor additions, most notably the chance to ride motorbikes--which is particularly satisfying--and fly proper aircraft.

Vice City can't be recommended unreservedly though: if you're intending to buy this game for someone under 18, you really should think again, as it's violent, filled with sex and swearing, and is totally and utterly immoral. Which is why it's guaranteed to sell and sell. --David Jenkins

I have been a HUGE fan of the gta series,But Vice City is in a world of it's own, from the superb radio stations and missions to the awesome bikes and cars. You may be wondering why i am writing a review on a game that has been out for a few years, and with gta san andreas being as good as it is,but the fact is i love this game so much,i just had to write down my personal view of it,so that's what i've done.

10 out of 10... :)

Having been a GTA fan for years I can say that this one is a classic. It is set in 1986 in Miami two years before the new Vice City Stories. These are the best games ever, there are endless things to do and characters in other GTA games involved to, there are lots of missions aswell.
You start out with nothing just being released from prison and have been imployed by the Forelli mafia family, a well known gang in Liberty City and they send you to Vice to start the drug buisness there for them but you are immedietly set up by an unknown cartel and you cocaine is stolen. The aim of this mission is to find the cocaine and edventually take over Vice City but to do this you must find many contacts, explore, fight escape the many things in the narcotics gang world and much more to do this. It is a must have game but new fans to GTA I say get San Andreas.

The Grand Theft Auto series have shown that they can make brilliant Sequels, and GTA vice City is not an exception! Taking place is the Drug Filled 1980s, Vice City is the Second Installment on the ps2, and is based on the coast of Florida, USA.

The best GTA game to date, it never gets boring, no matter how many times you play it! To date, i have completed the game 100% four times, thats how much the game has in fun! Its endless! And not only that, the sense of Freedom in the game and the Extra side missions that Vice City has can open you up to even more possibilities. If GTA 3 wasn't good enough, GTA vice City shows once again that they can beat the success of the previous!

You play as Tommy Vercetti, a middle age man who has just been released after serving time for the Mafia back in Liberty City. After you are released back into the streets, you are sent on an errand straight away for the Mafia Family: To overlook a Drug Deal going down in Vice City. Without further due, you are sent over to the Beautiful and relatively clean city by plane, ready to make sure the drugs and the money get received safely. However, the Deal turned out to be an Ambush, and you are left without money, without the Drugs, and worse of all, with very little help apart from a rather scared lawyer names Rosenberg. Together, you vow to get the Drugs back, along with the cash, and if everything goes well, to own his own criminal empire in Vice City.

Its well written and done, so much effort and time as out in this masterpiece of a game that no matter how many Glitches appeared, you wouldn't notice. In fact, i didn't find any Glitches at all, the Game was obviously tested around a thousand times by the Rockstar crew, and this much dedication made this game superb. Previous fans will notice that Vice City has changed as well a lot, new buildings, new map, new transport and most of all, a whole new set of gangs. Vice City is my Favorite GTA game to date, it is better then San Andreas (ok, San Andreas may have been bigger, but it wasn't better in Quality.) The Controls in the game are top notch and realistic, you feel like your actually in the game. The best thing about Vice City was that it was one of the only cities that are show in the GTA series that is "Clean." Crime under control, A new force called "Miami Vice" (Look out for Crocket and tub's!) few gangs, and good police units. But don't think this will spoil your fun, Vice City is a breathing, open and endless city of opportunities, beautiful beaches and the warm hot, Folorida sun. The Missions are all fun, and many things along with the graphics have been improved from Liberty City. Although all the GTA games evolve around Liberty City in one way or another, Vice City feels different from all the other GTA games. It feels better in many different aspects....
