Amazon.co.uk Review

You'll need no incentive to watch Series 6 of Only Fools and Horses beyond the knowledge that the very first episode of the six herein is the one in which Del takes that legendary pratfall when leaning against a non-existent bar counter. This is without doubt one of the greatest moments in British TV comedy.

Other than that, what do we get? Well, this is the series in which Rodney first takes up with Cassandra. Gwyneth Strong's deftly underplayed, near-deadpan approach to the role of Rodney's soulmate is perhaps one of the most underrated elements in the show's entire run, even if the writers rather ran out of things to do with her almost at once. Ironically, then, despite her introduction, this isn't the strongest of Only Fools collections. Nevertheless, there are enough gems to remind you just why this show was such a success, among them the Spanish holiday episode in which Rodney has to pretend to be 14 and the propane-filled blow-up dolls episode, which really doesn't need a punchline.

On the DVD: Only Fools and Horses, Series 6 two-disc set is presented in standard TV 4:3 ratio, with no special features--unless you count the injunctions on each disc's menu to insert the other disc if you want to watch the other episodes, "... you plonker!". --Roger Thomas

This is the best comedy of all time, that I will never forget! The problem is why did the BBC edit this DVD. This happens on some other DVD like Jolly boys outing and on series 5 episode Tea for three that was also cut missing seen when having the meal the seen had been short than the BBC 1 version.

Another 2 DVD episode edit is A royal flash and Watching the girls go by on series 4. Sad news Miami twice (Movie) was edited too......

Will the BBC ever do the uncut version's on DVD/Blueray.

John Sullivan the writer have a word to the BBC to get them to sale the full versions. John Sullivan thanks for the memory of classic comedy and good I hope you can get the full versions for all the fan's this will make a money boost to you and BBC.

I gave this three stars as the edit's if not the edit's it would been 5 stars.

Any 'Fools' fan would tell you that Series Six is where the programme was at its height. There are also a lot of changes. One is where the programme's format shifts to the fifty minute episode as opposed to the thirty minutes ('Sickness and Wealth' is actually fifty-five minutes). Another change is Rodney meeting the love of his life- Cassandra and marrying her at the end of this series. Classic moments include:

Del falls throught the bar (Yuppy Love); the inflatable dolls (Danger UXD); the elaborate con trick (Chain Gang); Rodney has to act fourteen to keep a holiday he has won (The Unlucky Winner Is...); the Nag's Head regulars have a seance (Sickness and Wealth) and Rodney gets married.

Overall, a spectactular series with every episode containing at least one notable moment, which is somewhat absent in the next series.

The BBC released this DVD set as complete series 6. Yet people should be aware the first episode "Yuppie Love" is in fact, cut. The scene where Rodney asks Cassandra for a dance is edited, a shameful act on the part of the BBC yet again.

The episode "In Sickness and Wealth" contains about five minutes extra from the original broadcast version, which was edited at the time because the episode over ran. No extra scene, but some dialogue was edited out. This only makes the decision to cut the Dance scene from Yuppie Love all the more baffling.

Only Fools ran at it's peak for 15 years, successfully integrating new characters such as Uncle Albert, Raquel, and Cassandra along the way. Over time, it's success has amounted to being considered by many the greatest sitcom ever produced, not only for it's comedy, but also the depth of characters and range of emotions it was capable of producing. It was cable of great dialogue, and also visual comedy. Not all comedy can combine those two elements, some only have dialogue and little visual jokes, others the opposite. But Only Fools provided both in abundence.

The character of Del and Rodney's Mother, who we never saw, was neverthe less a central figure to the series. We only get impressions of her, such as Del's romantisied images of a saintly woman, whom the Angels loved too much, and succedded to a higher calling than life in this world. That, compared to Boycie's cynical memories of her "propping up a bar beside two Fella's....This can surreal imagery perhaps be considered a legacy from another comedy great "Steptoe and Son", along side Del's own view of his mission in life to look after his family, feelings of family loyalty, balanced against his own aspirations.

This series charts the meeting, and romance of Rodney and Cassandra, mixed with Del's aspirations of moving into Yuppie circles, as his camel hair coat gives way to Gordon Gekko style braces and trench coat, not forgetting the filofax...It was the first series to run for 50 minutes, from the traditional sitcom 30 minute slot. Such was the quality of the storylines and acting, the transition was seemless, a natural progression. Witness Del's unforgettable leaning on the bar which no longer exists, the exploding dolls, Rodney's winning entry in an under 15 art competition, and his marriage to Cassandra

The BBC has produced some great programmes over the years, it's a shame they always seem to pay little notice to the presentation of it's DVD releases. Far from being the definitive version of the programme, they continue to be released like this disc, video quality, no special features whatsoever, and worst of all, cuts in the episodes. The rating I've given here is a reflection of my feelings about this television gem, not of it's cheapened, undervalued DVD release.

Series 6 of only fools is possibly the best series of all, firstly the episodes were extended from the usual 30 minutes to a screaming 50 minute in length,so that meant for greater story build up and greater characterisation,i suppose on some levels the show needed that chance to extend its wings and allow for a development that would take the show to a higher level.
Filmed in 1989 the first episode is called 'yuppy love' and in it rodney meets his future wife for the first time in cassandra, and del who has taken on the mantle of a yuppy falls through the bar while trying to look chilled, its one of the most famous comedy moments of all time so im sure we all know it but it makes me laugh even after seeing it countless times, classic indeed.
Throughout the other 5 episodes alot happens, del entering rodney into an under 15s competition and rodney having to pretend he is that age is pure gold and the stunning episode 'chain gang'is also to be found here.
I dont want to go on and on about each episode and i am tempted but the fact remains that if you say that you are an only fools fan you need this, and i have the double video release from years ago and the dvd of this, you would be a plonker not to have one of the two anyway.
