Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Amazon.co.uk Review

Every Foo Fighters album, up to and including their fourth studio disc, One By One, fluently merges rock menace with unabashedly cheery melody and thoughtful if somewhat cryptic lyrics. So while insistent, guitar-terrorised tracks like "All My Life" and "Times Like These (One-Way Motorway)" don't expand the Foos' oeuvre, they're as catchy as hell and well worth the proverbial price of admission.

Those searching for veiled Nirvana / Courtney Love references will no doubt unearth them (or unearth what seem like veiled references), while longtime fans can relax in the knowledge that a seasoned pro like Grohl knows better than to meddle with a truly winning formula. True, there's a certain sameness to the spiky, percussive bursts of punk-pop tabled by the Foo Fighters. Yet it's pretty hard to fault players as palpably enthusiastic as Dave Grohl and his gang. --Kim Hughes

Nice songs, shame about the production - Reviewed on 2007-11-11

This is a collection of really well crafted songs, in fact, 'All My Life' is one of my all time favourite songs. The album has great vocals and guitar throughout but what on earth have they done with the drums and bass. Both sound as though they were recorded in a padded cell giving the impression that the drum kit was cobbled together on a budget of less that $100. In my dreams this album was produced by Jimmy Page with Flea on bass and John Bonham on drums. 'One by One' could have been a classic.

After reading the review about this being a copy protected disc, I wasn't sure whether to buy this album or the original version as I listen to a lot of my music on my mp3 player. I took the risk anyway as others had not mentioned it and am glad I did. Although the disc does say that it is copy protected, I had no trouble playing and ripping it to my pc using media player. It is a brilliant album and also includes a bonus disc which has some really good tracks on too. Do not miss out on this great bargain.
Do Not buy this version if you only have a PC - Reviewed on 2007-09-01

was looking forward to this and the additional disk and having installed the software to play the 2nd disk (against my better judgement, hate installing plug in's )on a win xp SP2 machine, the 2nd disk plays at 128Kbps ( compressed) and the 1st, the main disk, will not play at all. I have tried a number of different software players to no avail and all lock the machine up. I have asked Amazon to add "enhanced / Copy protected to the despcription" so as to avoid any further confusion.
Pick a different version of One by One if all you have to play it on is a PC. I could have bought this as a compressed file from i-Tunes but wanted to get the uncompressed original, so much for trying the quality angle !!

This is my favourite Foo fighter album. Its great except i agree with the other review in that the 2nd half is a bit dull. However Lonely as You is my Favourite on here as wel as Low and Have it All. Overall this is a great modern rock album!

Really enjoyed how the band sounds heavier and more aggressive than on earlier albums. This is also reflected in the album's lyrics that are darker and more serious than before. The DVD is also cool and features the video for the first single off the album.
