Great, if not a little too disturbing. - Reviewed on 2008-05-10

I found this game in the pre-owned section of a shop, and when i read the back, i thought great! I am a huge fan of Resident Evil, but had never herd of clocktower, and i thought the game may be similar. It is, but not overly. When i put it in my console i thought it was going ok and then after about half an hour there was a movie scene that i found really disturbing, namley a 9 year old girl having her head smashed in by a sledge hammer. Then i got the same treatment from the man. Your character is a girl called Alyssa, who cannot hold weapons until a boss fight, and if she takes too much damage she goes into a panic and is extremely difficult to control. The only enemies are the bosses, but they follow you around persistantly and you have to do a lot before you have a boss battle. The game overall is extremely good but i have to say, it is a 15 for a reason. Do not buy it if you are under 15.

I'd never heard of this title before I stumbled upon it in a bargain bin and thought I'd give it a go.
As a lover of all things in the horror genre, I personally really enjoyed this game.
The graphics were good (not up to RE4 standards by any means) but good all the same. The controls likewise, were better than the original RE series (ie -when you want to go forward you go FORWARD).
The actual game-play is also pretty good, although you don't actually fight monsters and demons etc., your main purpose is to "survive" by hiding, solving puzzles and setting spirits free. You do have to fight a few bosses as well though. Somewhat like Eternal Darkness, you have a panic meter, and if your character gets overly spooked she will not freak out and freeze!
The story-line, dark atmosphere, eerie music score and general sense of unease really adds up to a very enjoyable game overall.
If you enjoyed Eternal Darkness, Silent Hill and the Resident Evil series, I'd really suggest you give this a go.
I think you may be pleasantly surprised!

I bought Clock Tower three as I absolutely love survival horror so I thought that I would give it a go. I liked the concept of the game, that you play as a 14 year old girl helplessly running around trying to hide with no means of fighting back. I also generally liked the way in which the killers chased you around and I certainly found it to be scary at some points.

However after a while they start to get on your nerves a bit and you find yourself constantly hiding in the same places over and over again. So after a while it gets a bit repetitive.

Saying that, the storylines involved are quite well done and the game is engrossing overall. It is too short though and I am glad that I got it in the sale and did not pay full price for it!

Created by the director of Battle Royale and developed by Capcom (developers of the Onimusha, Dino Crisis and Resident Evil games), this third instalment of the 'Clock Tower' trilogy is an astounding yet disappointingly shallow slasher sequel that creates nothing new to the popular genre.

Playing as 14-year-old Alyssa, she soon discovers that she's a Rooder ( a generation of women who battle evil, murderous spirits) after she encounters a strange-looking man. As you can tell, the storyline's a little far-fetched but the brilliant voice-overs and believable dialogue flow nicely with the game's story. The visuals are the game best bet as they are splendid-looking and simply dazzling while the music's superbly spot-on. Some may argue that the simplistic gameplay gets a little frustrating when trying to accomplish a puzzle or battling a boss at the end of each level but it all depends on the gamer's level of skill. Also, its lifespan is incredibly short (only spanning 4 levels of gameplay) which won't take any average gamer long to complete.

This is a great addition to the series but when they think up Clock Tower 4, they'd better fix the gameplay to save many gamers going into mad frustration.

Another excellent survival horror - if you're good enough - Reviewed on 2004-01-12

It's quite clear that the only reason people didn't like this game is because it was too difficult for them. You have no weapons in the traditional sense, so fans of all-out shooters won't be happy, but this just adds to what is already an incredibly tense experience. Only brainpower and quick reflexes will save you from a gruesome death here. The atmosphere is extremely well done - if you don't jump out of your skin at least once, you'd better check your pulse for signs of life. This is survival horror at its rawest; some of the images go beyond anything in Resident Evil or Silent Hill in terms of shock value, and you are constantly in fear of your life. Clock Tower 3 makes a refreshing change from the brainless action elements which have pervaded some of Capcom's horror games of late, and fans of Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Project Zero are sure to enjoy themselves.
