Amazon.co.uk Review

Jack Bauer is having another one of his "very bad days" in the second series of the ground-breaking real-time thriller 24. Once again the hours are ticking by with more guaranteed cliffhangers than a convention of mountain climbers. Holed up in a Los Angeles condo and estranged from his daughter, Jack is no longer on the government payroll; unfortunately for him, this small fact doesn't seem to matter to President David Palmer and the NSA who call him back in to the CTU and give him 24 hours to infiltrate a terrorist organisation who are planning to detonate a dirty bomb in the city of angels. All Jack wants is to get his daughter out of the city, unfortunately Kim's new employer, the abusive father of the child she is nannying, has other ideas.

Fans of the original won't be disappointed, as there are more than enough shock moments in the first few hours to hint at the climactic build-up to come, while newcomers can quickly get involved in the lives of Jack and his family. There are some new characters to bolster the veteran cast and, interestingly (although not surprisingly given the outcome of the first series), Jack's character has taken an altogether darker, more psychopathic turn. The danger the characters find themselves in also has a much more global impetus, grounded as it is in the war against terrorism. Although the territory is more familiar this time around, this second series is just as much a high-tension, taut, adrenaline-fuelled ride as the first series, and one that will have you glued to your TV for the next 24 hours. --Kristen Bowditch

Maybe even better than the first - Reviewed on 2008-11-11

This is a different kind of season to the first with some absolutely brilliant moments.

If you can overlook the fact (something you always have to with 24) that all big events happen on the hour then you will love the way each episode leaves you begging to watch more. Classic episodes all the way through.

Again there are twists and turns in this series too, if season 1 didn't make you trust noone then this one surely will.

Hard to surpass the action and suspense of the first series but an exellent show with plenty of both. A great follow-up and good to see Jack back on form too!
They are pushing it too far - Reviewed on 2008-03-20

This story could be told in half episodes. Several lines and dialogs are repeating themselves over, and over, and over so as to make 24 episodes. Ok, I've wached the first season, I thought it was good (although I'm not fond of action movies), but I guess now the writers are just pushing it too far! Come on, what else can happen in 24 hours?

Once again we have parallel story lines, and while Kim's story is not boring, it's completely irrelevant to the main plot. One more thing that disturbed me was the production errors all over the series. People get seriously hurt all the time, and in the next episodes they 're running, shooting etc. Futhermore, similar scenes keep repeating themselves. I've counted at least 4 interrogations and tortures.

If you've enjoyed the first season, you'll enjoy the second as well. It has the same advantages but the same drawbacks as well. It may be slightly better though. If only it was more realistic.

Im a little behind in the 24 series so there's no point reviewing it really everybody knows by now this is quality TV. I would like to say I enjoyed the first but this went up a notch totally brillant I loved it just ordered series 3 bring it on can't wait.

But... be prepared.
I found season 2 to be less credible and more predictable than season 1. Let me give you two examples of credibility issues.
The loving caring President has the head of NSA arrested for treason and then tortured, while he watches.
Jack Bauer gets tortured himself, and then five minutes after being free he's up chasing baddies and rescuing damsels in distress. Hmmmm!
Despite its short comings it still is a fabulous series and merits 5 stars. If you can forgive the lack of credibility, you'll enjoy it immensely.
It definitely has that 24 factor that keeps you wanting to watch the next one.
Series 3 here I come!!!!!!!
