My 2 year old daughter loves all of these books - very imaginative stories - great illustrations - pages contain lots of detail she really enjoys.

What a fantastic read and great for all ages - although the Gruffalo is still the frim favourite in our house this book gives it a real run for its money..... highly recommend this for all 1-7 year olds. Also as an adult that enjoys doing the voices (badly!) its easy to read this book aloud again and again without getting tired of it.
Julia and Alex are a great team - brilliant story and brilliant pics.
The goat chewed the curtains and trod on the egg, then sat down to nibble a table leg! - Reviewed on 2008-04-21

I bought this for my son who is about to turn three and it has become a firm favourite. The fun rhyming text makes him laugh out loud, particularly "The goat chewed the curtains and trod on the egg, then sat down to nibble a table leg" and the bit where the cow does a jig on the table. The pictures are equally entertaining and my son will happily sit and study the book on his own and chat about what is going on in the nice clear pictures. There is nothing crude or scary about this book. It is simply a fun tale that teaches the child to appreciate what he or she has. My son loves this book, and if your child appreciates animals doing mad things, then yours will too.
Excellent and educational - for now and later - Reviewed on 2008-02-03

A Squash and a Squeeze is a great book, with a deeper meaning than most small-childrens' books. It's a good enough, simple story with rhyming verses and nice illustrations, that lilts along at just the right pace for my 16-month-old daughter to choose it again and again from her shelf of bedtime books.

But it also has a deeper, more philosophical message for her to pick up later. And that message is essentially 'be thankful for what you've got, because your life could be a lot worse'. This, of course, is not an easy message for small children to grasp, but one which I think most parents would be happy for them to understand at some later point in their childhood.

All in all, it's a cheerful, colourful and educational book with messages on different levels for children from toddler age to young school age, I'd suggest.

The story itself is based on a Jewish folktale.
An old lady is complaining her house is too small, so asks the wiseman for help. Instead of tellling her to build an extension, he gives some interesting and unique advice!
By the end of the story, the old lady is delighted with her house and the space she has.
Wonderfully illustrated and with witty engaging rhyme.
Highly recommended as a bedtime/anytime reader. Just the right length to keep a youngster's attention with enough change and variation to keep interest.
